Puppy Kindergarten $120 (min 3 students needed)
- 4 weeks
- Small classes; 3-4 puppies
- For puppies between 12 and 20 weeks of age
- Vaccinations should be up to date for their age (eg. first vaccination at about 8 weeks, 2nd at 12 weeks and the final one at about 16 weeks)
- Kennel cough, optional but a good idea as it can be deadly in very young puppies
- The goals of puppy classes are:
- Puppy socialization with other puppies and people
- Preparation for later obedience training by developing the puppy's drives and by giving owners instruction/skill on how to handle their puppy
- Teach the puppy certain (safety-related) manners
Basic Obedience (Level I) $140 (min 3 students needed)
- 4 weeks
- Small classes, 3-4 puppies
- For dogs that are older than 5 months in age (puppy kindergarten not a pre-requisite)
- Vaccination should be up to date
- The goal of basic obedience classes is to introduce owners/dogs to the five control commands:
- Sit
- Down
- Heel on leash
- Stay
- Come
Basic Obedience (Level II) $140 (min 3 students needed)
- 4 weeks. 1 hour sessions
- Small classes, 3-4 puppies
- Basic level I pre-requisite
- For dogs that are older than 5 months in age
- Vaccination should be up to date
- Polishes basic skill level
- Sit
- Down
- Heel on leash
- Stay
- Come

Trainer: Nancy Clarke
Nancy recently completed a Master of Science Degree in Animal Science as part of the UBC Animal Welfare Program. Her research explored the role of animal control enforcement practices in the reduction of dog bite incidence. Nancy is hoping to continue researching dog-related issues as part of a PhD program at UBC. She has a master’s degree in social work but has had a parallel dog-training career. She trained her first dog when she was 12 years old and has been training professionally and providing dog obedience instruction to others since 1973. Nancy has combined both of her professional interests and offers counselling and assistance to people living with dogs who have behavioural issues and provides pet-loss counselling. Nancy has also been active in the therapy dog movement, first as the Provincial Evaluator for the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, then as the program’s Provincial Director, and now as an advisor to the National Professional Advisory Board. For her contribution to the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, Nancy was nominated and inducted into the Order of St. John. Nancy has varied and extensive dog training experience and has been a competitor in numerous dog sports including: CKC conformation, obedience, tracking and retriever trials, and in the European sport of Schutzhund, a 3-discipline dog sport which involves tracking, obedience and protection.
